Unexpected .atom Pages Indexed in Google Search Console
Ivanna Parra
A customer reported receiving warnings from Google Search Console about duplicated pages with the .atom extension. The customer states that they have no articles with this extension. The frontend team mentioned that .atom is a specific XML extension that we might be generating for certain endpoints. We need to investigate:
- Which endpoints are generating .atom pages?
- Why these pages are being indexed by Google?
- Whether these pages should be publicly accessible or need to be blocked (e.g., via robots.txt or meta tags).
.atom pages should not cause duplication warnings in Google Search Console.
