Drop-down Category Selector

For categories containing a lot of articles or subcategories (or even for the home page) it would be useful to have a drop-down that would allow you to filter content based on your selection. For our company, the usecase would be to enable users limit the content displayed to only articles that are relevant to their department or role.

Our organization could benefit from this as well.
We use the categories to separate our products, and then the versions of those products. Incorporating a dropdown would allow users to select the product and version they are searching against to yield better search results.
